Cowboy Action Shooting

Recently I have discovered the fun and joy of Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS). I used to play cowboys and indians when I was a kid, even watched the Lone Ranger on the telly. But I never thought I'd grow up to actually dress in cow girl type clothes, strap on a pair of six guns, grab up a lever action rifle and shoot a double barreled shotgun. It is soooooooooo fun!

I kinda got drug in to this (LOL). A few years ago the hubby went out and bought a pistol. I wasn't too thrilled, until the day I REALLY needed some serious stress relief. So out we went with the pistol, a box of bullets and some tin cans. I got hooked on shooting (also discovered I have a bit of natural talent for the sport) and relieved a lot of stress at the same time.

We went to an informal shoot a number of months later, where one of the participants was decked out in cowboy regalia. This was my first exposure to cowboy action shooting. Time went on a bit and I got a bit more interested in the sport, we picked up a sweet six shooter and I got to practice a bit. We did some web searching and discovered there was a group located down in Lewiston and they welcomed newcomers. So I finished up a split skirt I was working on, found a cowboy hat at a yard sale, dug some boots out of of my closet and found a blouse at Goodwill and voila!, Jane Cotton was born.

The hubby made me up a leather belt and holster, and off we went to the shoot. I, however, was underequiped, but the folks there rustled up some extra hardware (another pistol, rifle and shotgun) and someone to help guide me thru the shoot. I was nervous as heck at first, but after the 3rd and 4th stages, I started to really get the hang of it. I don't think the grin on my face from completing the first stage ever left my face the entire day. I was seriously hooked on the game.

So seriously hooked that the next week I sent off my membership for SASS - Single Action Shooting Society. We've joined the local practical shooting group, the Palouse Practical Shooters and have access to a safe range to practice the sport (safety, safety, safety, can't say that too often).

I've been to several shoots now and hubby has been seduced by the Cowboy Way also. Hubby now claims he has created a monster. Whenever we stop off at gun shows I get whiplash checking out the cowboy stuff. I want more LOL. I want clothes, I want hats, I want to go out and shoot every weekend (and if we work it right next summer, we WILL!!! hehehehehe).

Here are some more photos of Jane having a fun time.
